What is information logistics?
Information logistics is making sure that the right information reaches the right person, in the right way, at the right time, in the right place and at the right cost.
Information logistics - right information reaches the right person
Building bridges between islands of information
All organisations and companies are dependent on information. It can be found within IT systems, in binders and computer files on individual computers or in the form of the knowledge and routines people within organisations have.
To be able to handle information efficiently saves both time and money. This is where information logistics comes into the picture. An information logistician builds bridges between technicians and users and creates contact between islands of information. Information logistics is much more than knowing how IT systems function. It is technical skill combined with an overall view of the operations.
Today, its rarely a lack of information that is the problem, quite the contrary in fact. Information flows like never before. But it is very much a question of the right information reaching the right person, in the right way, at the right time, in the right place and at the right cost. You could liken it to the companys central nervous system, with tendrils running out through the whole of the organisation. There is a great deal of money to be made by means of the efficient handling of information - something that more and more companies are becoming aware of.
Information logistics is informatics and IT, but also logistics, economics, processes and management.

The work of an information logistician:
Information logistician - a multi-faceted job for the future
Information logisticians are in great demand. More and more companies and organisations realise that an efficient flow of information can create major advantages, both financially and with greater customer satisfaction.
The working role has many aspects and the areas of work can vary. If you would like to work with operational development, organisation and management, information design or strategic business development, in different forms, then information logistics will suit you down to the ground. Today, former students work as project managers, purchasers, with responsibility for customers, operational developers and IT consultants.
Examples of the tasks that an information logistician can work with:
  • Plan what information about customers your company needs in order to do good business.
  • Supply your customers with the right information so that they can do better business.
  • Investigate what possibilities a new IT tool must have in order for it to have the greatest possible benefit.
  • Get people within the company to start working in a different way.
  • Ensure that knowledge is used, saved and passed on in the most efficient way possible.
  • Plan how information should be worked with in order to create quality.
Per Samuelsson, President and CEO Strålfors
Previously, companies perhaps saw production, order systems and marketing as separate entities. But everything is connected. And in a digitalised world, it becomes even more important. No company wants to have money tied up in stock or machines that are not used. We must rationalise - and then the shortest possible time between the different phases becomes vitally important. This is where information logistics comes into the picture. In actual fact, there is very little within a company or organisation that does not have anything to do with information logistics!
